Firstly, let us say how very sorry we are to lose the joke that our last book, Shirk, Rest and Play, was the “second and final book in the Deserter Trilogy”. It’s a joke that’s been with us through thick and thin, like a knackered pair of shoes, and we would like to thank it and wish it all the best in the future.

This book is something a little different. For a start it is a work of fiction. Weighty themes of mortality, modern masculinity and outsiderness are leavened with humour and off-beat perspectives.
We present ten stories, very loosely connected by South London; stories featuring pubs, drugs, guns, alcoholism, death, time travel, prostitution, mental illness and knob gags, so something for everyone. Not always an easy read, perhaps, but, we hope, compelling. It’s also the third and final book in the Deserter Quartet.
